Support the Equine Retirement Fund

At Cherry Orchard Equine Centre, our horses are more than just animals—they are family. They bring joy, learning, and healing to every child and community member who walks through our doors. Among our herd, two horses stand out: Chester and Travis. Their stories are a testament to resilience, love, and the power of community.
Travis’s journey began in a precarious way. Found on the roadside at a very young age, he was rescued and brought to Cherry Orchard, where he spent his entire life. From the very first day, Travis formed bonds with the children, staff, and volunteers, becoming a gentle and reliable companion. His presence offered comfort to nervous riders, encouragement to hesitant learners, and a sense of calm to all who spent time with him.

Chester’s story is different but equally touching. Donated by Kill Equestrian Centre, Chester joined our family later, quickly finding his place among the herd and in the hearts of our community. His playful spirit, patience, and connection with the children made him an indispensable member of the team. Both Chester and Travis became familiar faces to generations of children—each child leaving with memories of riding, grooming, or simply spending quiet moments with them.
These horses have contributed far beyond the stables. At Cherry Orchard Equine Centre, 70% of our riding lessons are dedicated to local community members, and we collaborate with local services to provide therapeutic riding programs. Chester and Travis played a central role in these programs, helping children develop confidence, physical strength, and emotional resilience. Every lesson they supported, every therapy session they participated in, strengthened the bonds between the horses and the community.
When Chester and Travis retired, it was an emotional moment for everyone. They were not just colleagues in the stables—they were family, friends, and teachers. Their absence left a void that reminded us how important it is to provide for our aging herd. Retired horses require specialized care: shelter, grazing, hoof and dental care, veterinary treatments, and routine health maintenance. The Equine Retirement Fund exists to ensure that every horse leaving active work can enjoy a safe, comfortable, and dignified retirement.
Your support of the Equine Retirement Fund ensures that horses like Chester and Travis continue to receive the care they deserve. It allows us to provide essential services, maintain their health and happiness, and even help us find suitable new homes when retirement elsewhere is needed. Each contribution makes a real difference, not just for the horses, but for the children and community members who love and rely on them.
At Cherry Orchard, our horses are deeply beloved by everyone who interacts with them. From shy beginners to regular riders, from volunteers to therapists, the herd has left an indelible mark on all of our lives. By supporting the Equine Retirement Fund, you are honoring these remarkable animals, safeguarding their well-being, and investing in the community programs they make possible.
Chester and Travis remind us of the extraordinary bond between humans and horses. They show us that love, care, and connection extend far beyond the riding arena. Your donation helps ensure that every horse in our care can retire with dignity, surrounded by the people and community that have loved them throughout their lives.

To celebrate the lives and contributions of retired horses, we honor them on our Wall of Legends. This permanent tribute recognizes their dedication, the joy they’ve brought to generations of riders, and the lasting impact they’ve had on our community. Supporting the Equine Retirement Fund ensures that every horse in our care can retire safely and comfortably, while continuing to be celebrated as the beloved legends they truly are.
