Hi my name’s Robyn. I found the BHS working student programme at the perfect time. College wasn’t suiting me. I didn’t know where to go or what to do. I’d always loved horses since I was 5 years old. (17 years now!). It had always been a dream to work with horses. Despite hearing all my life that an Equine career wasn’t worth it. I finally decided to stop listening to all the negativity that had ultimately prevented me from following the dream, and I’m so glad I did!

I’m now following my passion for myself and not others and loving it so far.

The BHS Working Student Programme has given me the opportunity to love life again, to have a purpose and given me the means to follow my dream. It’s been such a packed and rewarding few months already. My confidence has come on so much since.

Being given the initiative and such responsibility has really pushed me straight into what it’s like to work with both humans and horses 6 days a week.

Though challenging it has been so rewarding to be able to put into practice all of the things I’ve learnt along the way, from caring for horses and following a routine to running a yard and working in a team successfully.

It’s great to be able to study something and then there and then being able to practice and apply it in real time on a working commercial yard. For example one week we learnt how to poultice to look after an injury and only a few days later I was able to spot the injury in one of our horses, alert staff and be able to carry out the care needed. I’ts been brilliant to be hands on and get the experience. I couldn’t reccommend it more. The team is so knowledgeable and friendly and the horses are so well looked after. The center is a great place, I’m a very grateful to be a working student here at COEC.
