Cherry Orchard Equine Centre Haunted House

Every Halloween, the Cherry Orchard Equine Centre hosts the most anticipated event of the year for the communities of Cherry Orchard and Ballyfermot. Spearheaded by the young people from our youth service and Leader programme, the Halloween Haunted House, stands out among many amazing events. It’s a chance to have a lot of fun and celebrate Halloween in a safe and supportive environment.

A Response to Antisocial Behaviour

Originating from a desire to combat antisocial behaviour and community unrest during Halloween in the Dublin 10 area of Cherry Orchard, this haunted house is the creation of a wider programme ran through various organisations in the community heavily supported by Dublin City Council. What began as a solution to a community challenge has blossomed into a beloved tradition, eagerly anticipated by locals each year.

By the Community, For the Community

What sets the Cherry Orchard Equine Centre Haunted House apart is its grassroots and community led approach. Unlike commercial haunted house attractions, everything within its eerie walls is crafted by the talented young people and staff of the Cherry Orchard Equine Centre and the Cherry Orchard Community Training Centre. From the intricate artwork to the spine-chilling props and even the structure itself, every detail is a labour of love.

Each year brings a new theme, keeping the experience fresh and exciting for returning visitors. In 2023, classic horror movies took centre stage, with chilling nods to “The Exorcist,” “The Ring,” “Insidious,” “Asylum,” a ghostly room, and a terrifying encounter with arachnophobia. The attention to detail and dedication to creating an immersive atmosphere make every visit a heart-pounding adventure.

The construction takes over 1 week and 3 months of planning

A Community Affair

The Cherry Orchard Equine Centre Haunted House isn’t just an event; it’s a celebration of community spirit. We begin planning in mid-summer and continue right up until showtime. Last year, the build took one month, and a very long weekend was dedicated to completing all props and set designs. Remarkably, the structure is taken down in a matter of hours. As a team and a charity, we are conscious of our carbon footprint and always strive to utilise second-hand and repurposed materials throughout the build and prop design. Imagination is the key! In 2023, the Haunted House alone welcomed over 1,000 attendees, solidifying its place as a highlight of the Halloween calendar.
