Baking a Difference

The young people at Cherry Orchard Youth Service recently took part in the LauraLynn “Bake a Difference” Halloween bake sale, and it was an incredible success filled with teamwork, creativity, and community spirit.

They chose to support LauraLynn Children’s Hospice because of the amazing care the hospice provides to children with life-limiting conditions and their families. By organizing the bake sale, the young people wanted to make a real difference in the lives of children who need it most.

Preparation for the event involved careful planning and collaboration. The young people created a menu, made shopping lists, and divided baking tasks among themselves. They practiced some of the treats in advance and decorated the sale area with a fun, spooky Halloween theme. Posters and social media posts helped bring the community together for the event.

Through this project, the young people learned important skills such as teamwork, planning, and taking initiative. From a youth worker’s perspective, the goal was not only to raise funds for LauraLynn but also to give young people hands-on experience in organizing an event and contributing to a cause bigger than themselves.

The bake sale went exceptionally well. Everything ran smoothly, and the young people successfully raised over €400 for LauraLynn. The event showcased their hard work, creativity, and dedication to helping others.

The part of the event that stood out most was the teamwork and positive energy of the young people. Seeing the community enjoy the treats and knowing the money raised would directly support families in need made the effort truly rewarding.

Looking back, what will be remembered most is not just the baking or the decorations—it’s the sense of achievement and the difference made for others. The experience showed that young people can make a big impact when they work together toward a shared goal.
