From Darkness Into Light: Cherry Orchard Youth Service Walks Together in Phoenix Park
In the early hours of the morning, as darkness slowly gave way to sunrise across Phoenix Park, young people and staff from Cherry Orchard Youth Service came together to take part in this year’s Darkness Into Light.
The walk is recognised across Ireland as a powerful symbol of hope, remembrance, and support for mental health awareness and suicide prevention. For our group, it was also an opportunity to stand together as a community and reflect on the importance of connection, support, and looking out for one another.
There was a real sense of togetherness throughout the morning. Despite the early start, the atmosphere in the park was filled with positivity, quiet reflection, and encouragement from people of all ages walking side by side. Watching the sunrise after completing the walk felt especially meaningful, reminding everyone that even after difficult times, light and hope remain.
At Cherry Orchard Youth Service, supporting the wellbeing of young people and the wider community is central to everything we do. Events like Darkness Into Light create important opportunities to raise awareness around mental health and encourage open conversations in a supportive and inclusive environment.
We are incredibly proud of all the young people and staff who took part this year and grateful to everyone involved in organising such an important national event.
Looking ahead, we are hopeful that in 2027, Cherry Orchard will be able to host its own Darkness Into Light walk within the community, creating another opportunity for local people to come together in support of mental health awareness and hope.
Together, we continue to walk towards hope, support, and stronger communities.
