Volunteers play a valuable role in our centre, volunteering in the yard includes leading therapeutic riding sessions for clients with additional needs. Opportunities also exist to volunteer with the youth service , at special events or maintenance which includes maintaining the Sensory Trail.


Who can volunteer?

Anyone over the age of 18 who would like to give back to the community and is available to commit to an agreed period of time.

We also require all volunteers to meet the following criteria:

1. Complete online application form

2. Agree to completing Garda clearance check

3. Provide referees

4. Attend introduction meeting.


Do I need qualifications / experience?

No particular qualifications are needed but some equine and people skills will increase your chances of being selected for the volunteer programme. For those under the age of 18 please see our Leader Programme – click here.


How much time will I need to give?

We need volunteers in the Yard for our afternoon and evening sessions which are delivered Monday to Friday, 3-8pm.

We require our volunteers to commit to a minimum of one hour per week, for a minimum of 6 months.


What will I be doing?

On the yard the role can involve manual work and a lot of walking. Your volunteer day may include brushing horses, tacking up, leading children/adults on horses on our sensory trail and/or assisting with stables and feeding. This role can take place outdoors. We advise you to dress according to weather conditions.


Will I receive training?

Following your successful application, you will receive induction training.

For people wishing to volunteer on the yard but do not yet have enough horse experience, we will run a stable management course which will allow you to develop your skills. Times at which these courses run, depend on demand.
